Attractions between Bathurst and Tamworth: Goulburn River State Conservation Area

The Mudgee to Tamworth leg of the Bathurst to Tamworth drive is 286km long.

Take Ulan Road out of Mudgee and you can stop at a fair few wineries on the way north. Vinifera Wines, Pieter van Gent and the Robert Stein Winery all offer cellar door tasting sessions.

North of Ulan, you’ll see the trailhead for the Drip Walking Track through the Goulburn River State Conservation Area. This moderate 2.8km return walk should take an hour to 90 minutes, and it heads alongside the riverbed, through dripping porous rocks and ferny surroundings.

On the opposite side of the highway is Hands on the Rock, a significant Aboriginal rock art site.
