Bathurst to Tamworth drive: Coolah Valley Lookout

Once you reach the junction with the Golden Highway (aka the B84), turn left. Then, very soon afterwards, turn right again along Vinegaroy Road.

The Coolah Valley Lookout makes for a good photo stop along this winding road, while the small town of Coolah at the end is the logical fuel stop on the Mudgee to Tamworth drive.

Then you need to continue along the uneventful Black Stump Way before eventually turning right down Purlewaugh Road. This becomes Coonabarabran Road and passes the Spring Ridge Rifle Range.

Just after the Mooki River crossing in Caroona, you’ll need to branch left onto Waverley Road, cross the Kamilaroi Highway and continue east along Gap Road.
