The Echuca to Cohuna drive is almost entirely along the Murray Valley Highway. Obviously, the drive is short enough to do in just one stint behind the wheel, but there are a few stops you can make along the way.

If you fancy a little wine-tasting, you can make your way to the cellar door at Hopwood Wines.

Further along, there’s an attractive park at Casey Bend on the Murray River.

The highlight, however, is arguably the Baillieu Wildlife Reserve. This riverside reserve is a good spot for seeing native wildlife.

Cohuna is the start point for the Gunbower Island Forest Drive. This scenic driving route combines wetlands, river red gum forests and imperious black box trees. There are plenty of good spots for a picnic, while seeing native Australian wildlife is practically guaranteed.

Cohuna is also the base for Murray River Adventures, which operates kayaking tours on the lakes, river and Gunbower Creek.
