Mackay to Townsville road trip via Airlie Beach?

After Proserpine, most travellers will detour towards Cannonvale and – more specifically – Airlie Beach on the coast.

Airlie is the tourism hub of the Whitsundays region. Sailing tours depart from here, as do Whitsundays kayaking tours. The Hamilton Island ferry, stopping at Daydream Island before Hamilton Island, also departs from Airlie Beach. And the Airlie Beach Lagoon is a good bet for swimming.

Places to stay in Airlie Beach include the helpfully central Mantra Club Croc, the adults-only Airlie Beach Magnums and the Martinique Whitsunday Resort apartments.
