Melbourne to Mallacoota road trip: Best stops, distance & drive time

Marlo and Cape Conran

You’ll soon arrive in Orbost, where perhaps the best detour between Melbourne and Mallacoota comes in.

Going down the Marlo Road to Marlo and Cape Conran only adds around 15 minutes to your drive, but it’s well worth it.

Heading to Marlo, you’ll see the Snowy River winding its way towards the ocean. Lake Corringle and Lake Curlip lie by the road, surrounded by wildlife reserves.

In peaceful Marlo, you can stay the night at the caravan park, enjoy the views of the Snowy River mouth from the Lovelock Lookout and tackle the ocean at Mots Beach.

The Marlo-Conran Road brings several more beaches, while Cape Conran brings several walking tracks and the pink-tinged Salmon Rocks.

The Cabbage Tree-Conran Road brings you back to the Princes Highway.
