The quickest route between Mildura and Broken Hill follows the Calder Highway over the Murray River near the suburb of Yelta. Once on the New South Wales side of the river, the Calder Highway joins the Silver City Highway.

Mildura to Broken Hill drive: Wentworth attractions

Make friends with the Silver City Highway, because you’re going to be on it for a while. The highway continues to Wentworth, where the Darling River flows into the Murray.

Attractions in Wentworth include the Wentworth Pioneer Museum, Old Wentworth Gaol and Perry Sandhills.

After Wentworth, however, the Silver City Highway enters the New South Wales outback. Don’t expect tourist attractions on the way to Broken Hill, because there aren’t any. The highway crosses the Great Darling Anabranch, and a series of almost always dry lakes.
