The Narrabri to Dubbo drive connects two of the bigger New South Wales country towns. But most people tackling this drive will be doing so as part of a bigger road trip – perhaps from Brisbane to Dubbo, or Brisbane to Adelaide. There are, however, a few stops and attractions worth adding to the itinerary before you get to the spectacular Dubbo Zoo.

Narrabri to Dubbo distance and driving time

By car, the Narrabri to Dubbo drive covers a distance of 264km. That should make for a driving time of around two hours and 58 minutes. You can make a day of it, however, and add in a few good road trip stops.

Before leaving Narrabri, there are a couple of attractions worth checking out. The Australia Telescope Compact Array and the Narrabri Old Gaol and Museum are both surprisingly interesting.

Narrabri to Dubbo road trip: Coonabarabran

The Narrabri to Dubbo drive starts along the Newell Highway, and ploughs through the largely unexplored Pillaga Forests. Wandering in Timmallallie National Park is also an option, but the best road trip stop between Narrabri and Dubbo is Coonabarabran.

Coonabarabran is the gateway to Warrumbungle National Park, one of the most appealing national parks in New South Wales.

Coonabarabran is also something of a stargazing hotspot. You can discover the night skies at the Siding Spring Observatory or Milroy Observatory.
