After that, however, the drive is pretty darned rural as it heads down the Kamilaroi Highway towards Boggabri. Here, the Boggabri Historical Museum covers local history, including the tale of how much of the town was moved due to flooding.

The Kamilaroi Highway then continues on towards Gunnedah, the biggest town between Narrabri and Tamworth. The Gunnedah Rural Museum – yet more local history – is the main conventional attraction here. But you can also admire the giant silo art murals and the views over the plains from Porcupine Lookout, two kilometres to the south of the town.
