A little further along comes the turning for Crusoe Beach, a pretty beach with a jetty on Wilson Inlet.

Keep going towards Youngs Siding, and you’ll encounter the Surf Gallery. This quirky little attraction acts like a museum of surfboards, charting changes in design and shape over the decades.

From here, the South Coast Highway runs inland through farmland, although detours to the coast can take you to West Cape Howe National Park and Mutton Bird Beach.

Nearer the highway, the Lake Powell Nature Reserve has a 9.5km walking track around it and Oranje Tractor Wines has a cellar door open for tastings.
