Tennant Creek to Darwin drive: Renner Springs and Daly Waters

The first leg is from Tennant Creek to Daly Waters, and it’s 407km long. During this stretch of the Tennant Creek to Darwin road trip, the landscape visibly changes, with the dry outback giving way to the vegetation of the tropics.

The Threeways Roadhouse at the junction with the Barkly Highway is just north of Tennant Creek, but you’re best hanging on until the Renner Springs Desert Inn for fuel and snacks.

This stretch of the drive is short on attractions, but you can pull over at the Lake Woods Conservation Covenant. The ephemeral lake here attracts plenty of bird life.

The Daly Waters Pub is perhaps the great Australian outback pub. Expect live music, big steaks on the barbecue and decorations provided by donated paraphernalia from around the world.
