Lake Boga, Victoria, is a small town near the Murray River. It’s pretty much a suburb of Swan Hill, but is worth visiting as a place that marches to its own beat. The town gets its name from the lake it sits on the shore of.

Things to do in Lake Boga, Victoria: Kayaking and water sports

Things to do in Lake Boga, Victoria, understandably revolve around the lake, which measures 3km across. It’s a popular spot for water sports and you can hire a kayak from the Lake Boga Caravan Park for from $10 an hour.

Other popular water sports on Lake Boga include boating, waterskiing and stand-up paddleboarding. The problem for non-locals is the lake of hire facilities.

Can I swim in Lake Boga?

If you’re not bothered about hiring vessels to explore the wake with, you can also go for a swim. The lake may be a reservoir, but you can swim in Lake Boga. There are several spots around the lake where you can get into the water, but most stick to the south-western corner where the town is.

There are public toilets on the Lake Boga Foreshore Reserve.

Things to do in Lake Boga, Victoria: Fishing

It’s also possible to go fishing in Lake Boga. The lake is well stocked with native fish such as golden perch and Murray cod.

You’ll also find redfin in there if you strike lucky.

Lake Boga Flying Boat Museum

Aside from the lake itself, however, the top attraction in Lake Boga is the Flying Boat Museum. This museum looks at the story of the Catalina flying boats, which played a significant part in World War II.

Lake Boga was a major repair station for the flying boats, and the museum is centred around Catalina A24-30. This plane was salvaged and restored after it was retired from service. Entrance to the museum costs $18, including GST.
