Woody Point on the Redcliffe Peninsula, Queensland: Best attractions

Top attractions in Woody Point on the Redcliffe Peninsula, Queensland, include sailing lessons with the Humpybong Yacht Club, beers at the Belvedere Hotel and bowling at the Bramble Bay Bowls Club.

The Redcliffe Peninsula in the Moreton Bay Region of Queensland offers up several beach suburbs. Redcliffe, home to a bizarre open-air Bee Gees museum, is the main focal town. But the likes of Margate and Woody Point to the south have plenty to offer as well.

Woody Point is at the southern tip of the Redcliffe Peninsula. It has a seaside village vibe, with a fair few cafés and arty shops.

Woody Point Beach and Humpybong Yacht Club

Woody Point Beach itself is small, and protected from the surf. It is better suited to swimming than surfing, although sailing is the big thing here. The Humpybong Yacht Club is in the park next to Woody Point Beach. Book in advance, and the Humpybong Yacht Club will take you out on sailing lessons.

Even without heading out on a yacht, there’s a good chance of seeing Moreton Bay’s dolphins from Woody Point Beach. They aren’t exactly shy.

If you want to make an afternoon a visit to Woody Point, then Crockatt Park just behind the beach has plenty of facilities. You can have picnics and barbecues here, while the playground is well equipped, with a flying fox and climbing frame.

Bramble Bay Bowls Club and Belvedere Hotel

The parklands follow the foreshore around the edge of Bramble Bay, confusingly changing names. Continue to the west, and you’ll find the Bramble Bay Bowls Club and Redcliffe Parkour Park.

Should you be feeling thirsty, the Belvedere Hotel is only a few steps away. The Belvedere Hotel has big, sunny decks for an al fresco beer, and it’s a good place to watch the sun set.

Woody Point attractions: Scotts Point Beach and Gayundah Coastal Arboretum

Other things to do in Woody Point include Scotts Point Beach and the Gayundah Coastal Arboretum. Both of these are on the east-facing coast, around the corner from the Woody Point Jetty.

Scotts Point Beach is renowned for its fishing, while the Gayundah Coastal Arboretum hosts plenty of rare plants. It’s also a chilled-out place for a stroll or sit down in the shade.

Woody Point is by no means a must-see. Most overseas visitors will skip the entire Redcliffe Peninsula on their way north to the Sunshine Coast anyway. But on a sunny day, it’s a lovely neighbourhood to hang out in.
