Brisbane Airport train: Timetable, fare price & journey time

The Brisbane Airport train takes 28 minutes to reach Roma Street Station from the Airport Domestic Station. Or 20 minutes from Airport International Station to Brisbane Central. Trains run every 15 minutes, and fares cost from $15.30.

The Brisbane Airport train works to a different system from the rest of Brisbane’s rail network. The Airtrain is privately owned, and not subsidised by the Queensland Government.

This means that Airtrain fares are considerably higher than on most of Brisbane’s rail network, even though it connects seamlessly to other train services. The Brisbane Airport train is not part of the Translink system.

It is, however, the quickest way to get from Brisbane Airport to the city centre, or vice versa.

Brisbane Airport train timetable

According to the Airtrain timetable, the first train of the day departs the Airport Domestic Station at 05.04. In the other direction, the first departure from Brisbane’s Roma Street Station is at 04.27.

The last Brisbane Airport train departs Domestic Station at 22.04. In the other direction, the last train of the day departs Roma Street Station at 21.27.

Many of the trains carry on along the Gold Coast Line rather than terminating at Roma Street.

The trains run every half hour at the beginning and end of the day, but are every 15 minutes most of the time.

Brisbane Airport train journey time

The Airtrain usually takes 28 minutes to run from Domestic Station to Roma Street Station. However, it does stop at other stations along the way. The other stops on the line are Airport International, Eagle Junction, Wooloowin, Albion, Bowen Hills, Fortitude Valley and Brisbane Central.

In practice, many of the travellers taking the Brisbane Airport train will be going from International to Central. That journey takes just 20 minutes.

Airtrain fares

Airtrain fare prices are a little on the steep side, but not outrageously so. A one way ticket from Brisbane Airport Domestic to Roma Street Station costs from $15.30. Buy a paper ticket on the day, and it costs $19.80. Go Card payments are not accepted. Bookings can be made on the Airtrain site.
