Kettering ferry crossing time

The Sealink Bruny Island service is so frequent because it really doesn’t have that far to travel. The hop across the d’Encastreaux Channel from Kettering to Roberts Point takes 15 to 20 minutes.

For pedestrians, this is frequent enough to not have to worry about the Bruny Island ferry times, or booking a particular service. You can just rock up at the Kettering Ferry Terminal, a half hour drive south of Hobart, and get on the next ferry.

The Bruny Island ferry is also free of charge for pedestrians. You will, however, have to pay to take your car across the d’Encastreaux Channel. And, frankly, Bruny Island is far too big to walk around.

The fares for the Sealink Bruny Island service vary depending on time of day. Go early in the morning or late in the afternoon, and you can get the ‘light’ fares on the ferries.

Bruny Island ferry cost by vehicle

The fares also alter depending how big your vehicle is and whether you’re pulling a trailer. The vast majority of tourists making the crossing, however, will be in a rental car less than six metres long.

For these cars, the Bruny Island ferry costs from $32.20 return. That’s the light fare, but the normal fare that the majority of people will pay is $38. This fee covers the car, driver and all passengers.
