When working out how to get from Australia to Las Vegas, factor in connection times at Los Angeles Airport. There are no direct Sydney to Las Vegas flights – but there are other options.

Las Vegas is one of the most popular tourist destinations on earth, and travellers heading to or from Australia may want to include Nevada’s entertainment capital in a round the world trip.

You might assume that with Las Vegas’ perennial popularity, there might be a direct flight from Australia to Las Vegas. Alas, there is not.

How to get to from Australia to Las Vegas

With no direct Sydney to Las Vegas flight – on, indeed, flights to Las Vegas from other Australian cities – you need to look at the one stop routes.

There are several one stop routes from Australia to Las Vegas. The cheapest flight from Sydney to Las Vegas can sometimes be the Air Canada route from Sydney to Vancouver, then Vancouver to Las Vegas. There’s also the Qantas route from Sydney to Dallas, which gets you to Las Vegas with a connecting flight aboard American Airlines.

Sydney to Las Vegas flights via Los Angeles

In practice, however, most travellers heading from Australia to Las Vegas will connect in Los Angeles. There are several airlines offering Sydney to Los Angeles flights – you can take your pick from Delta, Qantas, United Airlines and American Airlines. All either fly the Los Angeles to Las Vegas route, or have a codeshare partner that does.

Qantas and United Airlines also fly from Melbourne to Los Angeles, with codeshares on to Las Vegas.

Quickest Sydney to Las Vegas flights

The quickest Sydney to Las Vegas flights are offered by United Airlines. With Los Angeles layover included, these Sydney to Las Vegas flights take 16 hours and 41 minutes.

However, this only gives one hour and 45 minutes to transfer at LAX. Given that you have to go through immigration, pick up your suitcase and check it in again, the chances of you missing your connecting flight to Las Vegas are high.

Factor in connection times if flying from Australia to Las Vegas. Trying to save time could end up giving you a big headache.

The other option, of course, is to land in Los Angeles, then enjoy a Los Angeles to Las Vegas road trip.
