Direct flights from New York to Sydney

Qantas does, however, operate a direct flight from New York to Sydney. These flights – QF4 from New York to Sydney and QF3 from Sydney to New York – touch down in Auckland for refuelling on the way.

This is a change from the previous Qantas New York route, which stopped in Los Angeles instead. This route, which was scrapped during the Covid pandemic, had connection problems. Passengers going from Sydney to New York had to collect bags and clear customs in Los Angeles. By stopping in Auckland instead, it’s a simpler transfer.
