Sydney to Gold Coast flight times vary slightly by airline. Qantas schedules the flights to take one hour and 25 minutes, but the other airlines give a duration of one hour and 20 minutes. Melbourne to Gold Coast flights are also available, and take two hours.
It’s worth considering flying to Gold Coast Airport even if the Gold Coast isn’t your intended destination. It works for the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, too. Gold Coast Airport is not just close to the New South Wales border – part of the runway crosses the New South Wales border. With half of it in Coolangatta, and half in Tweed Heads, this is probably the only airport in the world that’s in two different time zones.
Gold Coast Airport to Byron Bay
If your destination is Byron Bay, and you don’t want to take on the Sydney to Byron Bay drive, flying to the Gold Coast is a reasonable alternative to flying into Ballina. The drive from Gold Coast Airport to Byron Bay is about 47 minutes long. If you’re staying on the Tweed Coast, in the likes of Cabarita Beach, Casuarina or Kingscliff, then Gold Coast Airport is closer than Ballina.
