Bairnsdale accommodation guide

Accommodation in Bairnsdale, Victoria, includes the historic Grand Terminus Hotel, the family-friendly NRMA holiday park and the functional Bairnsdale Motel.

Bairnsdale, Victoria, is the main town of the East Gippsland region. In practice, most visitors will choose to stay in Lakes Entrance instead. But the Melbourne to Bairnsdale train line makes Bairnsdale easily accessible from the Victorian capital.

Bairnsdale accommodation is largely aimed at those driving from Melbourne rather than taking the train, however. There is a heavy skew towards motels.

Bairnsdale accommodation: Motels and Grand Terminus Hotel

The Bairnsdale Motel, a five minute drive from the town centre, is arguably the plushest of these. Elements in its favour include the 12 seater hot tub outside and king rooms with private patios. Room rates cost from $155 a night.

For a touch more grandeur, the Grand Terminus Hotel has a historic railway hotel vibe. Proximity to the train station is an obvious plus point. It also has its own restaurant and a café next door. Rooms at the Grand Terminus Hotel cost from $155 a night.

Bairnsdale hotel options

The four star Bairnsdale International, meanwhile, goes for a contemporary business hotel vibe.

It’s arguably the slickest and most modern accommodation option in town, but perhaps lacks character. Expect to pay from $162 per night.

Holiday park in Bairnsdale, Victoria

The most family-friendly Bairnsdale accommodation option, however, is arguably the NRMA Bairnsdale Riverside Holiday Park. Set on the banks of the Mitchell River, this holiday park offers relatively spacious cabins and villas, plus free barbecue facilities. Cabins cost from $79 per night, although that’s for one with shared facilities. If you want more privacy, it’s from $111 per night.

The best things to do in Bairnsdale include admiring the stunning murals in St Mary’s Church and learning about local Indigenous culture at the Krowathunkooloong Keeping Place.
