Goolwa on Encounter Bay in South Australia is the gateway to the Coorong National Park, and the launch point for Coorong cruises or kayaking tours. There are other things to do in Goolwa, but it’s really all about the trip around Hindmarsh Island to the Mouth of the Murray River.

If you’re driving from Melbourne to Adelaide, or Mildura to Adelaide, Goolwa is one of the best stops on the route. And there is cheap accommodation available.

Discovery Parks Goolwa Holiday and Caravan Park location

The Goolwa Caravan Park – officially the Discovery Parks Goolwa Holiday and Caravan Park – is a 1.6km drive from Goolwa Wharf. Compare that to the location of caravan parks in Sydney or Noosa holiday parks, and that’s pretty darned convenient.

The Goolwa Caravan Park also has a fairly decent gamut of facilities. There’s a half-decent swimming pool, a children’s playground, WiFi and laundry. The Discovery Parks Goolwa Holiday and Caravan Park also has an on-site shop and barbecue facilities.

For the hardcore campers, an unpowered site at the Goolwa Caravan Park costs from $27 per night. If you, for some reason, might prefer some electricity, a powered site costs from $37 per night. An en-suite powered site – essentially a site next to your own private toilet block, costs from $52 per night.

Goolwa Caravan Park cabins

The Goolwa Caravan Park isn’t just for those travelling with their own accommodation, however. There are also cabins on the site, with varying levels of spaciousness and comfort. The economy cabins at the Goolwa caravan park cost from $112. These sleep two people, but there are slightly more expensive cabins that sleep five people. Bookings can be made online.

Is it the most glamourous accommodation in Australia? Heavens no. Does it serve a purpose for seeing an underrated part of the country at reasonable cost? Yes.
