Lucky Bay campground, WA: Camping fees, facilities & location

The Lucky Bay campground in Cape Le Grand National Park near Esperance in Western Australia is next to the whitest sand beach in the country. Camping fees are $15 per night.

The Lucky Bay campground in Western Australia allows visitors to camp right behind one of Australia’s most incredible beaches. It is a basic, self-sufficient camping experience, but that’s the trade-off for staying next to the beach with the whitest sand in Australia.

Where is the Lucky Bay campground?

The Lucky Bay campground is located next to Lucky Bay in Cape Le Grand National Park, Western Australia. It is a 65km drive to the south-east of Esperance, the only town of any real size on this remote part of WA’s south coast.

To reach Lucky Bay from Esperance, head east along Merivale Road, then branch south down Cape Le Grand Road into the National Park. A left turn shortly before the end of the road will bring you onto Lucky Bay Road.

Lucky Bay campground facilities

The Lucky Bay campground is basic, and light on facilities. There are 56 sites on compacted, crushed rock, and drinking water is not provided. Even the untreated water at the site is not guaranteed, and needs treating before use.

Facilities at the Lucky Bay campground include toilets (both pit toilets and flush toilets) and showers. Hot water is not guaranteed in the showers, however.

For eating, there are food preparation shelters with picnic tables, benches, dishwashing sinks and gas barbecues.

Lucky Bay camping fees

At the time of writing, the Lucky Bay camping fees are $15 per night for adults, $9 for concessions. Bookings must be made online in advance via the Parkstay system.

There is also a $15 per vehicle national park entry fee. This can be paid at the time of booking your site at the Lucky Bay campground, or upon entry to Cape Le Grand National Park.

Lucky Bay campground rules

No dogs are allowed at the Lucky Bay campground, and campfires are banned, too. Chemical waste must be taken out of the park, and generator use is restricted to between 8am and 1pm, then again from 5pm to 9pm.
