Narrogin to Perth distance and driving time

By car along sealed roads, the distance from Narrogin to Perth is 197km. That makes for a driving time of around two hours and 20 minutes.

Narrogin is home to heritage buildings, plenty of art deco and the wildflower-sprinkled Foxes Lair Nature Reserve. While there, you can also learn about local history at the Old Courthouse Museum and go wine-tasting at Downderry Wines.

Narrogin’s primary attraction, however, is on the route towards Perth. Leave town on the Wandering-Narrogin Road and you’ll pass through the Dryandra Woodland.

This woodland is one of Western Australia’s prime wildlife-viewing spots, with 24 mammal species and more than 100 bird species. Kangaroos, woylies, possums and echidnas are regularly spotted here. The tricky part is that most of them come out at night – which is where the Barna Mia Animal Sanctuary comes in handy.

The sanctuary runs an after-dark wildlife-viewing tour in the Dryandra Woodland. Obviously, this is better done while staying in Narrogin rather than as part of the Narrogin to Perth road trip.

Narrogin to Perth drive: Wandering and the Albany Highway

Further along, by the pleasant riverside parks at Pumphrey’s Old Bridge, the road becomes Pumphreys Road, then joins the Wandering-Pingelly Road and passes Codjatotine Mountain. It’s a hill rather than a mountain, but can be quite photogenic in the right light.

Just before entering Wandering, you’ll pass the Hotham Ridge Estate Winery, which offers self-contained accommodation surrounded by the vineyards.

For a feed in Wandering, aim for either the Wandering Tavern or Tanglefoot Winery and Café. Otherwise, continue north along the North Bannister-Wandering Road, which cuts through the Youraling State Forest before joining the Albany Highway at North Bannister.

The Bibbulmun Track – Western Australia’s premier long-distance walking route – passes by here. You can tackle the section around the Gringer Creek Campground if you wish to stretch the legs.

Narrogin to Perth road trip: A detour to Jarrahdale?

The Albany Highway passes through plenty of forest, and runs just west of Jarrahdale. Here, you can tackle the Kitty’s Gorge Walk Trail to Serpentine Falls in Serpentine National Park or visit the Millbrook Winery.

The quickest route into Perth, however, continues along the Albany Highway, past Wungong Dam and Bungendore Park. Armadale – home of the Armadale Pools – marks the start of the slog through suburbia into the city centre.
