Wangaratta accommodation: Motels, caravan park or apartments?

Wangaratta accommodation options include several motels, two caravan parks and a handful of apartments. The best pick depends if you’re going on price, space or location.

Wangaratta, Victoria, is in a fairly handy position between the Murray River and Victoria High Country. This makes it a pretty decent place to spend the night, particularly if driving along the Hume Highway from Sydney to Melbourne.

Wangaratta makes a solid base for special tasting experiences at two of Australia’s top wineries – Brown Brothers and Pizzini Wines.

Wangaratta accommodation is mostly motel-style, but quality is fairly high across the board. Go on a hotel booking website, and most options are at least eight out of ten.

But a few of the motels are better picks than others.

Wangaratta accommodation: Best motels

The Advance Motel comes with a swimming pool, as do most Wangaratta motels. But the Advance also comes with an eight person hot tub and an outdoor dining area with a barbecue. As motels go, it’s a fairly sociable spot.

If a central location is your priority, then the City Reach Motel and Ryley Motor Inn are within a very short walk of Wangaratta’s shops and restaurants.

The Parkview Motor Inn is basically the same distance away, but has the advantage of offering apartments, too. If you need a little more space, or are travelling with the family, then the one and two bedroom apartments here may be the perfect choice.

Wangaratta Caravan Park

The other obvious choice if travelling with the family is the Wangaratta Caravan Park. This comes with a garden, an outdoor pool and a children’s playground. There are also cottages and cabins available.

The facilities at the Big4 Wangaratta North Cedars Holiday Park are better. There’s a games room, the pool is heated and there are two bedroom suites. On the downside, you realistically need to drive into town.

Wangaratta accommodation: Quest and Apex Park Apartments

The other Wangaratta accommodation option is apartments. The business-focused Quest has studios, plus one, two and three-bedroom apartments. The studios have kitchenettes, while all the one bedroom and above apartments have full kitchens, washing machines and tumble driers.

The Apex Park Apartments are another spacious option. The one and two bedroom apartments here are within a block’s walk of Apex Park, the most enjoyable riverside green space in Wangaratta.
