Beechworth to Bright distance and driving time

By car, the distance from Beechworth to Bright is 59km. That makes for a driving time of around 47 minutes.

On the way out of Beechworth, just south of the airport, it’s arguably worth turning off the Buckland Gap Road down Lady Newton Road. This will lead you to the Bates Dam swimming hole and the Murmungee Lookout, which offers fabulous views over the surrounding farmland.

Beechworth to Bright road trip: Great Alpine Road

You’ll join the Great Alpine Road just before Gapsted, home to the strongly Italian-themed Gapsted Wines, which is open for cellar door tastings.

This is one of several wineries you can visit around Myrtleford, a town in the foothills of the Australian Alps. If you want another good hillside lookout, head for the Reform Hill Lookout in the Myrtleford Plantation.

Beechworth to Bright drive: Porepunkah and Bright

On the way to Porepunkah, the turn-off for Mount Buffalo National Park, you’ll go past Pumpkin Seeds Australia. Here, enormous pumpkins grow in the fields.

There are more wineries around Porepunkah, which is a seven minute drive from Bright. You can also stay here at the Porepunkah Pines Holiday Park.

Top things to do in Bright include the Canyon Walk, Bright Splash Park and Mystic Mountain Bike Park. The town is also home to one of Australia’s best craft brewers, the Bright Brewery.
