Darwin Harbour jet ski tour review

Darwin Harbour jet ski tour review

The 00SEVEN Adventures Darwin Harbour jet ski tours are high speed and high excitement – but not everyone is going to feel safe.

00SEVEN Adventures is a relatively new company offering jet ski tours on Darwin Harbour in the Northern Territory. How much you enjoy these Darwin jet ski tours depends largely on how much of a thrill-seeker you are. While some historical content is thrown in, the emphasis is firmly on high speed fun.

Where do the Darwin jet ski tours leave from?

The Darwin jet ski tours leave from Stokes Hill Wharf next to the Darwin Waterfront. Guests are briefly shown how the jet skis work, and this is not complicated. One handle means accelerate, the other reverses the jets, and one button switches the engine off.

By jet ski standards, the ones the 00SEVEN Adventures tours take place on are fairly big and sturdy. But they can still go fast. When Australia Travel Questions’ David Whitley had a go, he clocked speeds of up to 66km/h.

Darwin jet ski tours safety measures

Everyone is given a life vest, and a special kill cord is attached between the vest and the engine. That means that if someone falls off, the jet ski motor cuts out.

Once away from Stokes Hill Wharf, the tour hits full pace pretty rapidly, with the jet skis charging up and down Darwin Harbour. The idea is to stay in single file, give the person in front plenty of space, and to follow in the leader’s wake. The faster you go, the more control you have over the steering, which is a difficult concept to process for anyone who is frankly terrified.

The strength of these Darwin Harbour jet ski tours is that they are undoubtedly loads of fun. How much fun you have will largely depend on how scared you are. For the uninitiated, doing turns at high speed is a tall order, especially if the water is choppy. The major weakness of the tour is that weaker riders can be left at the back to essentially fend for themselves while everyone else rushes off doing stunts.

Crocodiles in Darwin Harbour?

Falling in is not a pleasant experience, either, even if you believe the reassurances that crocodiles are trapped and relocated from Darwin Harbour. It can be quite a shock at high speed.

There are several different Darwin jet ski tours available, all with a loose James Bond theme.

00SEVEN Adventures Darwin jet ski tour prices

The one hour Thunderball tour, which visits the site of a WWII shipwreck, is probably the best all-rounder. This costs $189. There’s also a sunset Goldeneye tour for $279 and a Honey Ryder sunrise tour for the same price.

More sedate ways to see Darwin Harbour include a sunset cruise, a boat tour focused on the World War II bombings and a cruise that stops off for fish and chips.

Following the tour, other things to do at Stokes Hill Wharf include the Darwin ferris wheel, Jetty restaurant and Royal Flying Doctor Service Darwin Tourist Facility. The Aqua Park, Wave Lagoon and World War II Oil Tunnels are nearby at the Waterfront.
