Maroubra surfing lessons: Can I learn to surf at Maroubra Beach in Sydney?

Maroubra Beach in Sydney is a National Surfing Reserve and has the best surf conditions of the Eastern Suburbs beaches. Let’s Go Surfing runs two hour beginner surfing lessons at Maroubra Beach for anyone who wants to learn to surf.
The beaches of Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs all have different qualities and personalities. Bondi Beach is known for people-watching, Bronte Beach is family-friendly and Clovelly Beach has excellent snorkelling.
Maroubra Beach, further south, is the longest beach in the Eastern Suburbs and has a more working class vibe. Feisty Maroubra is also highly regarded by surfers, and Maroubra Beach was the first beach in New South Wales to be designated as a National Surfing Reserve.

Where to surf at Maroubra Beach?
The southern end of Maroubra Beach is generally a little calmer and better for swimming. But the surfers generally plump for the bigger waves in the centre and north of the beach. The Point, Dunnybowl and Stromies reef breaks toward the northern end of Maroubra are a major part of the appeal.
Anyone just wanting to go for a surf should be aware that surfers at Maroubra are notoriously territorial. There is not a friendly, welcoming vibe for newcomers just rocking up to share the waves.
That doesn’t apply to the Maroubra surf school, Let’s Go Surfing, however.
