What to pre-book in Mooloolaba

Mooloolaba tourist submarines: How do the tours work?

The SUBCAT-30 can dive 30 metres below the ocean’s surface, but it can also travel on top of the water. This gives the best of both worlds – you can experience the ocean from the surface and down below. The sub can dive down to spot marine animals, then come back to the surface for the bigger picture.

Down Under Submarines not only has a great name, but it also has sustainability credentials. The SUBCAT-30 is powered by six battery operated electric thrusters. They produce no emissions while submerged, and the sub never comes into contact with either the coral reefs or aquatic life.

Sunshine Coast submarine tours and Mooloolaba cruises

The main Sunshine Coast submarine tours are under the water for about 30 minutes, with about 20 minutes of surface travel. These Mooloolaba underwater tours cost $253 per person.

There’s also the option of taking a sunset cruise. These Sunshine Coast sunset cruises do take place on the submarine, but the sub doesn’t go underwater. Instead, the cruise either pootles around the sheltered canals and waterways or heads just outside Mooloolaba’s main beach.
