The Bago Maze in Wauchope, NSW, proudly boasts that it is one of the world’s largest hedge mazes. And if trying to find your way around hedge mazes is your thing, this attraction near Port Macquarie is undoubtedly worth visiting.

This Port Macquarie maze is made out of native Lilly Pilly bushes, and is the centrepiece of a landscaped gardens complex. There are more than 2,000 metres of pathways in the Bago Maze, some of them sunken to add variety. While in the maze, you’ll also encounter hidden walkways, delightfully out-of-place musical instruments and lookout towers. Entrance to the Bago Maze costs $12 for adults and $8 for children.

Bago Maze and Winery

Also on-site is the Bago Winery and Vineyards. The hillside cellar door overlooks the maze and vineyards. It is open for wine tasting, with a paddle of four wines costing $8 per person. You can also upgrade to include cheese or local meat platters.

Bago Vineyards has been going since 1985, when Chardonnay vines were planted. Since then, the winery has introduced several new varietals, plus sparkling and fortified wines.

Where is the Bago Maze?

The Bago Maze is a short detour off the Pacific Highway near Port Macquarie on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales. It can easily be worked into the Sydney to Port Macquarie leg of the drive from Sydney to Coffs Harbour, Byron Bay or Brisbane. Other attractions reasonably nearby include the Billabong Zoo, camel rides on Lighthouse Beach and Lake Cathie.
