Bronte Baths, Sydney: Location, length, entry fee & opening times
One of Sydney’s most popular ocean pools, the Bronte Baths are carved into the rocks at the southern end of Bronte Beach. Entry is free, but check the cleaning times.
The Bronte Baths are a major part of what makes Bronte Beach in Sydney such a good all-rounder. Swimming at the beach itself can be somewhat hazardous, especially when the waves get up and the rips kick in.
Therefore, it’s extremely useful to have an alternative. And that’s where the Bronte Baths come in.
What are the Bronte Baths?
The Bronte Baths is an ocean pool. Like Aslings Beach Rock Pool in Eden, Continental Pool at North Wollongong Beach or the Blowhole Point Ocean Pool in Kiama. It is filled with saltwater, and it is built into the rocks at the southern end of the beach. The cliffs provide shade on hot days, which you can take as a bonus.
The heritage is also part of the appeal. This ocean pool has been here for a long time – it was first constructed in the 1880s.

How long is the Bronte Pool?
It’s not the biggest such pool. The lap swimming section is 30 metres long, although the irregular shape means that it’s slightly longer than that in parts. The Bronte pool is in a spectacular location, though, with big sandstone overhangs on the high cliff face and views across the bay.
Either side of the lane swimming section, there are free areas for water play and casual swimming.

Bronte Baths entry fee and opening times
There is no entry fee to swim at the Bronte Baths. It also theoretically open 24 hours a day, although it does close for cleaning. The Bronte Baths cleaning times are somewhat erratic, however, as cleaning takes place at low tide. Waverley Council keeps a schedule online, which you should check before rocking up for a swim.
