How did Hassans Walls get its name?
The name allegedly comes from Governor Lachlan Macquarie in 1815, who supposedly found the site reminded him of the hill forts in Northern India.
Another version of the story has it that Hassans Walls gets its name from an escaped slave who hid out here.
Where is the Hassans Walls Lookout?
The Hassans Walls Lookout is a short drive to the south of Lithgow in New South Wales. It is close to the Great Western Highway coming from Sydney and the Blue Mountains, but not accessible from the Highway.
If wanting to visit on the drive from Sydney to Mudgee or Sydney to Bathurst, you’ll need to peel off down Browns Gap Road, then wind your way to Hassans Walls Road.
Hassans Walls Road is a dirt road, but most conventional vehicles should be able to get down it.
