The Vlamingh Head Lighthouse is a lighthouse on the North West Cape, Western Australia. The lighthouse began operations in 1912.

Where is the Vlamingh Head Lighthouse?

The Vlamingh Head Lighthouse is near the tip of the North West Cape, approximately 17km north of Exmouth, Western Australia.

This Western Australian lighthouse is between Dunes Beach and Mauritius Beach. It neighbours the Harold E Holt Naval Communication Station and the Jurabi Turtle Centre.

Is the Vlamingh Head Lighthouse still working?

The Vlamingh Head Lighthouse was deactivated in 1969 and replaced a light on a tower at the Communication Station.

However, the lighthouse has become a popular tourist attraction, largely because it is in a spectacular site for watching the sunset.

The Vlamingh Head Lighthouse is on the Yardie Creek Road which leads to popular beaches in the Cape Range National Park, such as Turquoise Bay and Osprey Bay.

The Ningaloo Reef tours that depart from the Tantabiddi Boat Ramp also pass the lighthouse on the drive from Exmouth.

Ningaloo Lighthouse Holiday Park

Until recently, it has been possible to stay next to the Vlamingh Head Lighthouse in the Ningaloo Lighthouse Holiday Park.

However, the holiday park is temporarily closed for redevelopment. A new resort is scheduled to open here in 2015. Further information is available on the Ningaloo Lighthouse Project website.
