The quickest route heads out of Woodgate on Woodgate Road, then turns right up Goodwood Road.

This heads past Bingera National Park, which is unfortunately not really set up for visitors.

Burrum Coast National Park lies to the east. Access to the Kinkuna camping zone is via Palm Beach Road off Coonarr Road, but is 4WD only. All the walking trails are in the Woodgate section of the park.

You gradually enter Bundaberg through the southern suburbs, passing the Carina International Speedway and the Macadamias Australia macadamia form. The farm offers tastings and self-guided interactive tours.

Things to do in Bundaberg once you get there include strawberry-picking at Tinaberries, watching turtles at Mon Repos, going to the beach at Bargara and rum-tasting on the Bundaberg Rum distillery tours.

You can also take Lady Musgrave Island day trips, go for ginger beer brewery tastings and enjoy farm experiences at Splitter Farm.

It’s also possible to fly out to Lady Elliot Island, the southernmost island on the Great Barrier Reef, for a day out on the reef.
