Public House Petersham, Sydney: Can I drink at the Batch Brewery?

The Batch Brewery at the Public House Petersham in Sydney’s Inner West is a great place to try Australian craft beers.

Sydney’s Inner West has a strong claim to being Australia’s craft beer capital. There are several excellent breweries amongst the pubs of Erskineville and street art of Newtown. The Wayward Brewery in Camperdown is an excellent example, but there’s more craft beer discoverable slightly further west of the CBD.

Things to do in Petersham, Sydney

There aren’t too many things to do in Petersham, which is sandwiched between the Inner West neighbourhoods of Leichardt, Lewisham, Stanmore and Marrickville. Petersham attractions don’t tend to fill the Sydney guide books.

But Petersham is home to the Batch Brewery, and that is worth the trip out. The Batch Brewing Co Taproom is at 292 Stanmore Road. It’s the second Batch Brewing Co brewery after the original in Marrickville.

The Batch Brewing Co microbrewery is at the back of the Public House Petersham, a quality neighbourhood pub with an Italian-tinged food menu.

The best Batch Brewery beers to try include the Small Batch XXPA, which at 7.8% is not for the timid. Less forceful brews include the Tiny Coconut Bubbles beer at 4.7% and the Small Batch Tex’s East Coast Pale Ale. That’s 4.8%, and less likely to send you sleepy very quickly.

There are also limited edition beers for sampling at the Public House Petersham. These might include the Small Batch Pumpkin Pie Porter, Big Texas Teapot Nitro Red Ale or the Small Batch Oaked Tequila Wheat Wine.
