Hispanic Mechanic in Frewville, South Australia, is ostensibly a Latin American restaurant. But this Adelaide restaurant really doesn’t stick to the script. If blending together Mexican and Korean flavours works, then why not try it?

First and foremost, Hispanic Mechanic is a fun place to eat. The big courtyard has a South American vibe and cartoonish characters chase each other around the white-tiled walls.

The Hispanic Mechanic menu is consistently inventive. This Frewville restaurant majors in tacos, but there are some unusual flavour combinations in them.

The belly and beans taco, for example, comes with seared pork belly, black bean salsa and shredded lettuce. But it also has radish and pear-habanero mayonesa.

The most appealing dishes on the Hispanic Mechanic menu, however, are in the Platos Grandes section. The ‘duck dirty duck’ involves crispy slow-cooked duck leg, with pulled duck rice, pickled jalapeno and cilantro pesto. There’s also a Brazilian-style feijoada and an Ecuadorian chicken stew.
