Byron Bay brewery tours at Stone and Wood

Stone and Wood beers are now mainly brewed in Murwillumbah, NSW, but the company started out in Byron Bay. You can still do a tour of the Byron Bay brewery.

Stone and Wood is one of the success stories in Australian craft brewing. It was founded in 2008 by three friends in an industrial estate on the edge of Byron Bay, New South Wales. The initial aim was to brew quality beer while giving back to the local community.

If you can do just one thing in Byron Bay, make it kayaking with dolphins. The scenery’s beautiful, and you can get much closer to the dolphins than you would on a boat tour. BOOK HERE.

Stone and Wood has gone a bit beyond that now. The brewery’s beers are sold in pubs, bars and bottle shops all over Australia. You can also buy them overseas. Majestic sells the Pacific Ale in six packs.

Stone and Wood Pacific Ale

The Pacific Ale, a relatively easy-drinking and refreshing 4.4% brew, is the staple that the empire was built upon. But the range has expanded considerably beyond that, and is best tasted at the Stone and Wood brewery.

Or, rather, breweries. The original Byron Bay brewery has been joined by a main production facility in Murwillumbah and another brewery in Brisbane. The Murwillumbah brewery is only open to the public on rare, special occasions, so aim for Byron Bay or Brisbane. Both serve up a wide range of Stone and Wood beers, including some experimental ones that have got no chance of making it into bottle shops.

Byron Bay brewery tours

The Byron Bay brewery also offers brewery tours, lasting 60 to 90 minutes. These Byron Bay brewery tours start with a beer, then move on to a chat about the Stone and Wood back story and ethos.

After this comes a little on the history of beer, a talk through the brewing process and a sampling session in the tasting room.
