Towradgi Beach, NSW: Why go drinking at the Towradgi Beach Hotel?

The Towradgi Beach Hotel in Wollongong is a great spot for a beer in the sun after a day at Towradgi Beach. It’s also a gig venue, however…

You might come to Towradgi, a suburb of Wollongong to the north of the city centre, for the beach. You might also come for the Towradgi Rock Pool, a massive ocean baths built into the rocks. But chances are you’ll end up at the Towradgi Beach Hotel afterwards.

The Towradgi Beach Hotel is one of those massive suburban pubs that Australia seems to specialise it. It’s more than just a place to drink – it’s where people come to eat and enjoy live entertainment, too.

Where is the Towradgi Beach Hotel?

Despite the name, this massive pub is not actually at the beach. The Wollongong Surf Leisure Resort gets in the way of that. But it’s close enough for a few beers after a day on the sand and in the surf.

It’s the sort of place that fits several vibes. Waves, a medium-sized music venue, makes it the sort of place you might come to for a big. It hosts a fair few tribute bands, but also the likes of UB40 and Josh Pyke.

Towradgi Beach Hotel menu

The Towradgi Beach Hotel is also where you might come for a hearty feed with little frippery and messing about.

Specialities on the food menu are woodfired pizzas, rotisserie chicken and portions of porchetta. You’ll also find burgers, chicken schnitzels and pappardelle ragu.

Towradgi Beach Hotel beer garden

Most of all, though, the Towradgi Beach Hotel is where you come for a beer or glass or white wine in the sun. There’s a massive outdoor area which makes the term ‘beer garden’ seem frankly inadequate. It’s the sort of place, like the nearby Scarborough Hotel, you come to with your shorts on and salt in your hair.

Other highlights of Wollongong include Woonona Beach, Windang Beach and Stanwell Park Beach. The Scarborough Hotel in Scarborough is also a major contender for the title of Wollongong’s best pub.
