Fitzroy Island Resort activities

The Fitzroy Island Resort is the sort of place you want to stay in if you want an action-packed holiday. The weekly activity schedule has a ridiculous amount of options on it. These include guided bushtucker walks, kids’ badge-making classes and do it yourself tie-dye classes. There’s also daily fish-feeding from the jetty, stand-up paddleboarding tours and turtle rehabilitation talks.

Glass-bottomed boat tours, snorkelling tours and scuba diving are also among the optional extras.

The Fitzroy Island Resort opened in 2010 and has 99 rooms. It’s the only resort on the island, and certain facilities are exclusive to guests. These include the Zephyr Restaurant, resort pool, a swim-up pool bar, tour desk, air-hockey and kids playroom.

Fitzroy Island accommodation rates

There are several Fitzroy Island accommodation options available at the resort. These include standard resort rooms and suites, as well and beachside cabins and self-contained bungalows away from the rest of the resort. You can book the rooms separately, but it’ll almost certainly work out cheaper. At time of writing, for example, a three night stay including breakfast, a $50 restaurant voucher and transfers from Cairns cost $599 per person.

Fitzroy Island is a continental island rather than a sand cay. It’s thought that rising sea levels cut it off from the mainland around 8,000 years ago. The island has reefs next to it, and covers 339 hectares. 324 hectares of that area is national park, and one of the most appealing aspects of the island is the rainforest bushwalking trails.

Usually, there are no crocodiles on Fitzroy Island.
