Car-free (but Segway-friendly) Rottnest Island is the best day trip from Perth. It is best known for its glorious Indian Ocean beaches and cute quokkas. But the quokka island also offers up a wealth of tours and activities. These include Skydive Geronimo’s tandem skydives, which leave from the Rottnest Island airstrip.

Rottnest Island skydive in numbers

It’s a 20 minute scenic flight climb to jump altitude, which gives tremendous views of the island and the mainland. Then, once out of the plane, it’s 200km/h freefall for up to 66 seconds. The instructor then deploys the chute and you gently float back down to earth, landing on the beach. Prices start from $369 for those wanting to jump from 10,000ft, and go up to $499 for anyone wanting to take on the full 15,000ft. The higher you go, the more freefall time you get.

Rottnest Island skydiving landing spot

The landing spot depends on the weather and wind direction. The most frequently used is Bickley Bay beach, near the Kingstown Barracks area. The main alternative is Army Jetty beach on Thomson Bay. Salmon Bay beach is also used occasionally.

Skydive Geronimo also offers packages which bundle up the skydive on Rottnest Island and the ferry trip out from Fremantle. Cancellations are less likely in the summer months, when the Rottnest Island weather is pretty much rain-free.

Bookings should be made online in advance. It’s also possible to go camping on Rottnest Island.
