What is Jourama Falls

Jourama Falls is a waterfall on Waterview Creek in Paluma Range National Park, Queensland. The waterfall cascades down a series of rock ledges, creating a beautiful natural pool at the base. The Jourama Falls pool is a popular swimming spot.

Where is Jourama Falls?

The closest town to Jourama Falls is Ingham, a 29km drive away. From Townsville to Jourama Falls, it’s a 96km drive. The last 4.5km of the drive is on an unsealed access road from the Bruce Highway. The road to Jourama Falls is usually safe for conventional vehicles and caravans, but it can become impassable during the summer wet season months.

You’ll pass by on the drive from Townsville to Mission Beach.

Is it safe to swim at Jourama Falls?

It is not entirely safe to swim at Jourama Falls, but that applies to any wild swimming hole. There are no lifeguards, submerged items are potentially perilous and serious injuries have occurred here in the past.

That said, this Paluma Range National Park swimming hole is popular for good reason. As long as you’re not planning to jump or dive in, most people should be fine swimming at Jourama Falls.

There are no crocodiles at Jourama Falls – the elevation is too high.

Jourama Falls walk

The walk to Jourama Falls is about 3km return and takes about 1-2 hours to complete, depending on your fitness level. The track is well-maintained and has some steep sections, but it is suitable for most people. Along the way, you’ll enjoy scenic views of the surrounding rainforest and may even spot some of the local wildlife, such as turtles, birds and goannas.

Jourama Falls camping

It’s possible to spend the night at the Jourama Falls campground by Waterview Creek. Facilities include composting toilets, a shower cubicle, picnic tables and gas-powered barbecues. Generators are banned, as are open fires.
