Inside Glass House Mountains National Park, Mount Ngungun’s summit is fairly easy to reach. The 2.8km walking trail offers 360 degree views.

Mount Ngungun is one of several peaks jutting out from the forested landscape of Glass House Mountains National Park.

It is smaller, but much easier and safer to climb than nearby Mount Tibrogargan.

Where is Mount Ngungun?

Mount Ngungun is in Glass House Mountains National Park. It is the sixth tallest of the Glass House Mountains, which lie between Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. It’s about an hour’s drive from Brisbane to Mount Ngungun, which is not far off the Bruce Highway. The Wild Horse Mountain Scenic Lookout and Australia Zoo are both very close by.

Mount Ngungun summit walk

The Mount Ngungun summit walk requires a moderate amount of fitness, but most visitors should be able to manage it without two much difficulty. It’s a 2.8km return walk from the car park, and the Queensland Parks and Forests service suggests allowing two hours to complete the walk.

It’s generally a good walk to take children on, although the Mount Ngungun summit walk can be slippery after rain. The trail also runs close to some steep cliff edges, so be wary of them.

Mount Ngungun is only 253 metres above sea level – it just looks taller as it sticks out from the surrounding landscape. The walk passes through forest and woodland, with the 360 degree views coming at the top.

Mount Ngungun climbing and abseiling

It is possible to go climbing and abseiling on Mount Ngungun, but anyone attempting it needs to be experienced and well-equipped.

The rock face is considered moderately challenging, and you can do abseils of up to 40 metres.
