Where is Yanchep National Park?

Yanchep National Park is a national park in the far northern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia. The Indian Ocean Drive passes through on the way from Perth to Lancelin, or Perth to Geraldton.

The easiest way to visit is on a tour, and there are several options available. Options include a guided walk along the Ghost House Trail, although the smart move is to visit as part of a Pinnacles Desert sunset tour. These tours stop at Yanchep to see the kangaroos and koalas before heading to the Pinnacles for a stargazing session.

There are several attractions within Yanchep National Park, although it is best known for its caves. The most famous of these caves – Crystal Cave – is alas closed for maintenance at time of writing.

However, you can still go inside Yonderup Cave as part of a pre-booked tour.

Yanchep National Park wildlife: The best place to see koalas in Perth

Another key reason to visit Yanchep National Park is the wildlife. The Koala Boardwalk in Yanchep National Park is the best place in Perth to see koalas, which are not native to Western Australia.

You’ll also see plenty of kangaroos – a mob tends to hang out on the lawns around the McNess House Visitor Centre.

Look out for more on one of the several walking trails, which are designed to show off the biodiversity of the Swan Coastal Plain.

The 2.1km, family-friendly Dwerta Mia Walk from the McNess House Visitor Centre combines caves, wildlife and lots of interpretive signage.

The entry fee for Yanchep National Park is $15 per vehicle. The Treetops Adventure activity course within the park attracts a separate entry fee.
