The quickest route from Albury to Dubbo – and there’s only five minutes in it if you decide to go via Wagga Wagga instead – starts along the Hume Highway.

At Table Top, you can take a short detour east to the shore of Lake Hume. The Table Top Reserve by the lake has a playground and picnic area.

You can also have a beer Table Top Hotel – aka the Ettamogah Pub. This is a pub based on a cartoon and full of often absurd Australiana.

Then you branch down the Olympic Highway, or A41, just north of Table Top.

Albury to Dubbo drive: Yerong and The Rock

The Olympic Highway goes through the small settlements of Gerogery, Culcairn, Henty and Yerong.

Aside from some water tower art in Yerong, there’s nothing to get excited about in any of these.

A little further along, The Rock Nature Reserve – also known as the Kengal Aboriginal Place – has a picnic area, walking trail and lookout. If you’re more interested in the Indigenous cultural element, Aboriginal guided tours are available.

Albury to Dubbo road trip: The Rock to Coolamon

In the village of The Rock, branch off up The Rock-Collingullie Road. You’ll briefly join the Sturt Highway.

The Berry Jerry section of Murrumbidgee Valley National Park is just to the east, but the quickest route heads north up Mundowy Lane. Head east along the Old Narrandera Road, then north again up Millwood Road.
