The quickest route from Bendigo to Shepparton is mainly along the Midland Highway, but there’s a little diversion first. After Bendigo Botanic Gardens, branch off along the Epsom-Barnadown Road, past Bendigo Golf Club towards Barnadown. From this humdrum town, you can take a short detour to a couple of pleasant picnic spots on the Campapse River.

The Campapse River K41 Streamside Reserve is slightly bigger, although the Barnadown Streamside Reserve is a little closer to the Bendigo to Shepparton driving route.

Bendigo to Shepparton drive: Along the Campapse River

The Midland Highway largely follows the Campapse River for a while. Possible stops include Avonmore Estate, which produces biodynamic wines and Elmore.

The main lures here are the highly-rated Elmore Bakery and the Elmore Miniature Railway.

Bendigo to Shepparton road trip attractions: Lake Cooper and Green Lake

The Midland Highway turns east and leaves the Campapse River at Elmore. The next road trip attractions possibly worth stopping at are the lakes around Corop. Lake Cooper and Green Lake are the biggest, and come with shoreside visitor facilities.

The Bendigo to Shepparton drive then passes between the Wallenjoe Swamp Wildlife Reserve and Mansfield Swamp Wildlife Reserve.

Afterwards, the Midland Highway passes through Stanhope, north of Tatura and into Shepparton’s twin town, Mooroopna. You’ll skirt just north of the Australian Botanic Gardens Shepparton and through the extensive Goulburn River parklands before entering Shepparton City Centre.
