Things to do between Coffs Harbour and Tweed Heads: Killen Falls and Macadamia Castle

Following the Yamba to Ballina leg of the journey, it’s not far from Ballina to Byron Bay. But there are a couple of good attractions just north of Tintenbar. Killen Falls is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Australia, while Macadamia Castle offers a kid-friendly dose of native wildlife.

The coastline in these parts is spectacular, too. Only short detours are required to reach Lennox Head, Whites Beach, Kings Beach, the Broken Head Reserve and Arakwal National Park.

Otherwise, the highway passes charming Newrybar and restaurant-lined Bangalow before reaching Ewingsdale. This is home to The Farm Byron Bay, where Byron Bay hot air ballooning tours lift off from.

This is also where you head into Byron Bay, the major tourism hub of the Northern Rivers.

Top Byron Bay activities include brewery tours, art and wine classes and turtle snorkelling tours. You can also go kayaking with dolphins, learn to surf and see glowworms in the hinterland.
