Gladstone to Townsville road trip: Proserpine to Bowen
The next leg is from Proserpine to Bowen. The main detour worth considering is to the simple, laid-back villages of Dingo Beach and Hideaway Bay on Cape Gloucester. There’s little to do at either, but that’s the point – they’re very much about getting away from it all.
Just before entering Bowen, you drive past the Big Mango – one of Australia’s absurd roadside Big Things.
Things to do in Bowen include taking in the the views from the Flagstaff Hill Lookout, snorkelling at Horseshoe Bay and learning some history at WWII Catalina Flying Boats memorial.
