Dingo Beach accommodation, QLD: Camping or Dingo Beach Hotel?

On Cape Gloucester, Queensland, the Dingo Beach accommodation options are limited. Choose between camping at the Hydeaway Bay Caravan Park or units at the Dingo Beach Hotel.

Dingo Beach, Queensland, is one of the lesser-known holiday spots in the Whitsundays region. It’s on Cape Gloucester, next to Hideaway Bay. Visiting requires a significant detour off the Bruce Highway on the drive from Mackay to Bowen.

Dingo Beach camping

Dingo Beach accommodation is pretty thin on the ground, however. If you want to go camping at Dingo Beach, your best option is the Hydeaway Bay Caravan Park. This rather old school caravan park has a fire pit, kiosk and recreation room with pool table, but facilities are fairly basic. Travellers with a tent or campervan can choose between powered and unpowered sites.

The cheaper, unpowered sites for camping at Dingo Beach cost from $33 per night. Powered sites at the Hydeaway Bay Caravan Park cost from $38 per night.

You’ll find plenty of wildlife within the park grounds – wallabies, kangaroos, potoroos and lorikeets are regularly seen here.

Dingo Beach accommodation: Dingo Beach Hotel

The other Dingo Beach accommodation option is the Dingo Beach Hotel – aka, the Dingo Beach pub. The Dingo Beach Hotel offers one and two bedroom units, none of which are particularly glamourous. The basic stuff – mini kitchens, microwaves, TVs and air conditioning – is there. Just don’t expect incredible décor. Units at the Dingo Beach Hotel cost from $135 per night.

Things to do in Dingo Beach, Queensland

It’s the sort of place where you stick to the simple pleasures in life. The long sandy beach on Edgecumbe Bay has a stinger net to ensure safe swimming in summer, while the park behind it offers public barbecues, picnic tables and shady trees.

Snorkellers are in luck, too – a reef stretches between the tiny Blackcurrant and Manta Ray Islands. This reef also makes Dingo Beach a great spot for fishing.

The Great Dingo Beach Escape is a one-stop shop for equipment hire. Here, you can rent out boats, fishing gear, kayaks and snorkels.
