St Andrews Beach Brewery: Why visit this Mornington Peninsula brewery?

St Andrews Beach Brewery: Why visit this Mornington Peninsula brewery?

The St Andrews Beach Brewery is in a spectacular location on a former horse-training facility. These days, it’s the craft beers that are the thoroughbreds at this Mornington Peninsula brewery.

The St Andrews Beach Brewery on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria, stands out somewhat from the horde of Australian craft brewers. This is partly because the beers are good, but mainly due to the location.

The St Andrews Beach Brewery – sometimes just called the St Andrews Brewery – is on a 92 acre property. It used to be a horse-training facility, but now it’s a brewery, taproom and farm.

The property, known as Markdel, had its own racetrack and thoroughbreds that won Australia’s biggest horse races trained there.

St Andrews Beach Brewery: Barn, Birdcage or Stables?

It reopened as a brewery in December 2017, and the brewery is inside the former stables. There are, however, three sections to the venue – the Barn, the Birdcage and the Stables.

The Barn is the retail store at the St Andrews Beach Brewery, where you can buy cans and bottles to take home.

The Birdcage is the most casual area. The former parading ring is behind the brewery and designed for walk-in guests. The bar may be casual, but it does serve up the full range of beers. On a sunny day, hanging out in the big, grassy courtyard is fab.

The Stables area has a leaning towards dining. There’s a big beer garden, and the brewhouse is just behind the bar. You can watch the brewers in action while you eat and drink.

St Andrews Beach Brewery menu

The St Andrews Beach Brewery menu is pretty simple when it comes to food. The emphasis is on pizzas and burgers, although there is some food designed for sharing, such as the jalapeno poppers and sweet potato tacos.

The St Andrews Beach Brewery serves up some limited edition beers, but there are six in the core range. These are the 6 Furlongs pale ale, the Strapper Australian lager, the Box 54 golden ale, the Race Day pilsner, the Apprentice session ale and the Farrier IPA.

The brewery isn’t actually at St Andrew’s Beach, however – it’s slightly inland in Fingal. It’s at the southern end of the Mornington Peninsula, near the St Andrews Beach Golf Course, Cape Schanck and Gunnamatta Beach. Visit the brewery website for more information.
