Seeing kangaroos at St Andrews Beach Golf Course, Victoria

The St Andrews Beach Golf Course at Fingal on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula has a tremendous coastal setting. But it also has a mob of resident kangaroos…

The St Andrews Beach Golf Course in Fingal, Victoria, is one of the best places to play golf on the Mornington Peninsula.

But this Mornington Peninsula golf course has an extra special ingredient – kangaroos.

If you enjoy a round of golf, and would like to see wild kangaroos while you’re in Australia, the St Andrews Beach Golf Course offers two attractions in one.

13 fabulous Mornington Peninsula experiences to book

There are dozens of Mornington Peninsula tours available from Melbourne. The experiences listed below are aimed at those staying on the Peninsula, or with their own transport.

Where is St Andrews Beach Golf Club?

St Andrews Beach Golf Club is in Fingal on the south-western, ocean-facing side of Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula. It’ll take you about 90 minutes to drive there from Melbourne, and it is close to both the St Andrews Beach Brewery and the walks on Cape Schanck.

The St Andrews Beach Golf Club is in an evocative location, with the exposed dunes and crashing waves of the Bass Strait painting a clearly coastal picture.

The kangaroos lazing by the fairways just add to the distinctive Australian nature.

St Andrews Beach Golf Course green fees

At the time of writing the green fees for 18 holes on the St Andrews Beach golf course were $95 if prepaid and $105 if paid on the day.

If you need to hire clubs, this costs from $20. A motorised cart costs $46. For more information, visit the course website.

The course is notorious for its short par four holes, where there are handsome rewards for getting it right, and tough consequences for getting it wrong.

When to see kangaroos on golf courses

As with elsewhere in Australia, the best time to see the kangaroos active is early in the morning or late in the afternoon. This is when you’ve got the best chance of seeing them bound along the fairways, rather than doze beside them.

Other things to do on the Mornington Peninsula include snorkelling with weedy sea dragons at Portsea, surfing at Gunnamatta Beach and taking the Arthurs Seat Eagle cable car to the Enchanted Adventure Garden.
