Gunnedah to Tamworth distance and driving time

By car, the distance from Gunnedah to Tamworth is 77km, with a driving time of around 55 minutes. Obviously, there’s no pressing need to stop somewhere along the way, but there are a few possible stops to add to a road trip itinerary.

First up is the Red Bank Rest Area, about ten minutes out of Gunnedah along the Oxley Highway. This free camping area is on the bank of the Namoi River, and is reasonably pleasant rather than in any way essential. Shortly afterwards, you can make a fuel stop at the Carroll Store in Carroll.

Gunnedah to Tamworth drive: Somerton Roadhouse

The same applies slightly further along in Somerton at the Somerton Roadhouse. You can pull over by the Somerton Bridge for attractive views of the Peel River. But realistically, you’re better off heading straight through to Tamworth.
