Katherine to Kununurra road trip: Distance, driving time & stops
Things to do between Katherine and Kununurra: Keep River National Park
After Timber Creek, the next highlight of a Katherine to Kununurra road trip is Keep River National Park, just on the Northern Territory side of the Western Australian border.
A two wheel drive gravel road takes you to the main attractions here, although it may be a little bumpy.
There are several significant Aboriginal sites in Keep River National Park, accessible via relatively short walks. Woorrilbem / Cockatoo Lagoon is a good place to have a picnic and watch birds, too.
Once over the border, it’s a short detour to Lake Argyle, the largest lake in Western Australia. You can cross this enormous lake on a Lake Argyle cruise, or stay at the Lake Argyle Resort. People swim in Lake Argyle, but they do so with thousands of freshwater crocodiles.
From Lake Argyle to Kununurra, it’s a 69km drive.
