Melbourne to Uluru road trip: Distance, driving time and attractions

Melbourne to Uluru via the Barossa Valley

There’s a choice to make on the Adelaide to Port Augusta leg of the Melbourne to Uluru road trip. The quickest route is 309km long, and takes about three hours and 21 minutes. It goes by Port Wakefield, the pink-hued Lake BumbungaPort Pirie and Mambray Creek.

However, you’re much better off going via the Barossa Valley and Clare Valley wine regions.

8 unusual Barossa Valley experiences to book in advance

  1. Half day Mustang convertible tour.
  2. Two hour kayaking experience.
  3. Half day trike tour with commentary via headsets.
  4. Wine-tasting tour in a bright red London cab.
  5. Winery hopping by e-bike.
  6. Gin-making workshop with lunch.
  7. Behind the scenes VIP tour at Seppeltsfield.
  8. Learn about barrel-making at the Yalumba Cooperage.

Theoretically, the drive via the wineries only takes an extra half hour, but that doesn’t factor in visits to the wineries or attractions such as the Mintaro Maze.
